How To Transport A Pacman Frog

How Do You Transport A Pacman Frog?

Transporting a Pacman frog is not a straightforward feat. You have to ensure the environment around your frog is suitable for its comfort throughout your journey. Pacman frogs are cold-blooded, so they need warm and humid conditions. Here are some pointers to note as you transport a Pacman frog.

  1. Warm Your Means of Transporation

Pacman frogs need a reasonable amount of warmth to be comfortable. These temperatures range between 24 to 29 degrees Celcius during the day and 18 to 24 degrees Celcius at night. If your car or van is cold, you need to warm it before transporting your Pacman frog. A cold shock can make your frog fall sick.

You can turn on the car’s heating system to circulate warmth throughout the vehicle. Ensure the heater vents do not blow directly to your pet. Also, regulate the temperature and turn off the heater once you attain warmth. You may risk overheating your frog.

  1. Keep Your Frog In A Small Carrier Box

A small carrier box is easier to keep warm than a large one. Large carrier boxes tend to distribute heat across the large surface area, and your frog may not get the warmth it needs. A small carrier box is compact, and heat is circulated across a small surface area and around your Pacman frog.

  1. Add Wet Cushioning To The Carrier Box

Pacman frogs require a humid environment, so heat alone is not enough. You can use wet towels, cloths, or soft cushions to act as a substrate for your frog. They will keep your frog hydrated and comfortable. This wet substrate will also protect your forth=g from bumps and falls along the journey.

Use your frog’s regular substrate together with the one you have created for the journey. It will recognize its usual one and will gain a sense of homeliness and calm throughout its travel.

  1. Insulate The Carrier Box

Insulation ensures extra warmth for your Pacman frog just in case the internal heat in the car fluctuates for whatever reason. You can insulate the carrier box by placing a breathable blanket over the box to trap heat from escaping.

This blanket will also darken the inside of your frog’s carrier box. Since excessive light from outside will be too much for them, the dark interior will help them relax and stay calm/.

  1. Use A Styrofoam Cooler For Your Carrier Box

Pacman frogs rely on the surrounding environment to regulate their body temperature. If there is consistent heat, the frog might get uncomfortable. Therefore, it is essential to have a source of cold temperature to help cool down your Pacman frog when it gets too hot.

Styrofoam coolers are best suited for this purpose. You can place your Pacman frog’s small carrier box in a styrofoam box or container. The cool temperatures in the styrofoam box will ensure that your Pacman frog’s box does not rise in temperature. The already warm carrier box with your frog will remain warm, hence maintaining an optimum temperature.

Can A Pacman Frog Travel In A 5 Gallon Tank?

A 5-gallon tank is too small for a Pacman frog. A Pacman frog doesn’t need to travel inside its tank. You can use a carrier box as explained above and then utilize the tank for the frog to stay in wherever you are traveling.

What Do You Do With Your Pacman Frog When You Go On Vacation?

How Do You Transport A Pacman Frog?

Going on vacation does not mean you change the routines your Pacman frog is used to. The environment will be different, so it is up to you to ensure your frog settles down the best way possible.

Mak your vacation home a home for your frog as well. Keep it in its cage, just as you would at your own house. Pacman frogs are not likely to share their aquarium or cages with other animals. If you are able to, carry at least a 10-gallon tank that will have enough room for your Pacman frog, of course, depending on its size.

Line the tank with smooth rocks, paper, leaves, and plants that your frog can burrow into. As usual, the tank should have a substrate that stays humid throughout the day. The tank should be at least 50% to 80% humid.

Pacman frogs also require a little water that they can rink and sit in. Do not put too much as they may drown. Surround the bowl of water with plants for a more natural feel. Keep the water in the warm part of the tank so that it does not get too cold for your frog.

As for food, Pacman frogs are relatively good eaters. You can salvage insects such as crickets or give them pet store food such as canned worms.

Does A Pacman Frog Need A Heat Lamp?

Pacman frogs need heat lamps, especially if the environment they are staying in is cold. You may use a low-wattage lamp, preferably 15 to 20 Watts, and place it in a 10 – 20 gallon tank. A higher wattage tank will produce more heat which is not suitable for your Pacman frog.

Transporting Pacman frogs can be an easy experience, as long as you follow the rules of keeping it warm and its environment humid.
